Day 1 - CHARACTER

This post written by Dana Nelson, Founding Member and Board of Directors Member of the National Social Media Club.

You’re finally old enough and or your parents let you have a Facebook account. Now you face the biggest challenge of your character. This challenge before you has the potential to haunt you for years to come. But it's more than you being wise enough to post responsibly. Even kids who think they are being good online are at risk.

Everything online stays online; even if you erase it.

What you say and what is said about you can impact you in so many ways, not just the "bad" stuff. Online there are digital predators who take information that seems harmless and can infer information about you. That alone can put you at risk.

But let’s face it; you have a phone, Internet access and a need to be connected to your friends and peers.  What you do with that camera, can make or break your future.

“But I’m gonna clean it up before I go get a job.”

Yes you should do that. You should also Google yourself. Those pictures you erased might still be out there for years to come, with your name attached to it.

“I have good grades; my Facebook won’t affect me getting into college.”

I know of a student who lost a full ride scholarship because of a 30 second YouTube video he did in middle school. 30 seconds. That’s all it took to break him.

“I have my privacy settings locked down.”

Even so Facebook is notorious for changing privacy. One day you’re locked down the next your photos are available for others to use in ads. (← that really happened!)   Nothing is stopping your friends from saving the photos and information you post in a stupid moment and using them against you.

Need more?

Listen, I know it’s not fun to think about growing up and being serious, but this is serious. It’s serious now, and it will be serious later. I have a client who came to me last year. He had a friend in high school who got mad at him. That friend made a website about this gentleman. Now if you search his name, you get this website with photos saved from old Facebook pictures. I know that doesn’t seem fair, but life isn’t fair.

Do more

At the same time, you can use your digital footprint for good. Post pics of you helping at the Tri-State Food Bank, or raising money for a fellow student with cancer. Help share information about community or school events.

So what could you do? How can you take your social media and use it for good?

Be creative and share your ideas here to inspire others. Then, go do it. You can make a difference.

  1. I think this is very important to remember because when I go on facebook I see a post about going to the bar and stuff like that and that can really affect you. So remember if your gonna get a job deactivate your facebook or just take off bad post and or pictures.

    1. Morgan - It is important to remember that even if you deactivate your Facebook pictures and other things you post can still be out there on the Internet. All it takes is someone copying your photos and reposting them. A simple right click and anyone can own your pictures.

  3. This is so very important to realize that social media is not just "me and my friends". Twitter was hacked this weekend which shows how vulnerable we are when we use these sites. Before posting, always ask yourself, "Would I be proud if my future child saw this?"

    2. I love your comment "Would I be proud if my future child saw this?" One thing I teach in my twitter classes is: Don't post or comment if....

      Your mother,
      Your child,
      Your boss,
      Your next customer, and
      Your competitor

      ....shouldn't see it.

  4. Being on social network can be dangerous, but only if you make it that way. If you don't put stuff out there that might offend or hurt you or someone else, then it is okay to have a profile on the internet.I make sure to go through my acounts and make sure nothing bad is out there.

  5. I think that this is very important because you have kids or teens underage posting pictures on the internet of them drinking or smoking. Plus you have some kids posting bad statuses and its not getting them into colleges or getting jobs. It also will affect you in the near future.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That is so true, teens need to watch what they post and comment on. Teens post and comment on stuff as the same stuff as their friends, because they are trying to fit in.

  7. Its important to watch what you say on the internet because it can always be traced back to you. If you want a job be sure to deactivate all of your social networking accounts or erase your pictures. Don't give out personal information somebody might stalk you.

    1. Sequoia - Remember that even though you deactivate your social networks what you have posted can still be retrieved. All it takes for someone to copy your pictures is a right-click. They can then repost them and if they're tagged to you they'll still show even if you deactivate your account. Take Ms. Market's advice above - think before you post!

  12. This is a great conversation. I try to be very thoughtful about what I post on social media and blogs. It's not just about extreme behaviors that might follow me later. It can also be about how I present myself to others. The way I speak and behave online shapes the opinion others have of me. If I say something mean or snarky in a comment, then others may think that's the way I am all of the time. My rule is if I wouldn't act a certain way in public where I don't know everybody, then I don't act that way online. It's actually easier to filter myself online than it is to do so "live." At least on line, I have to hit Enter before I say something or share something. I use that moment before I publish something to consider whether or not I might prefer to keep my thoughts to myself.

  13. Tim - Great thoughts! It is REALLY easy to say things online that we wouldn't say face-to-face. And that comment, when made through social media, can have rippling effects. It is always best to stop and calm down before posting something or sending an email!

  14. what you put online goes right back to you. Sometimes can hurt for you get a job that pay real good money.Boss look at your email to see if you have any thing bad and they will friend you on your email. So watch what do online because you never know if there eyes watch.

    1. Katelynn - You are exactly right. I was at a conference just the other day and we were talking about how many employers search Facebook and Twitter before they hire someone. They want to make sure that the image you have created online matches the image they want for their company.

    2. Katelynn, You made me think of another topic related to this. Social media makes it so easy to surround yourself with people who you don't really know. Just because they are your friends on facebook, doesn't really mean they are your friends. Because of that, it is extra important to be thoughtful about what you say and do online. The people who say they are your friends online may not act very friendly in the end. Lately, I've been thinking a lot more about who I'm connected to online. If I see one of my facebook friends acting in a way that I wouldn't want my real friends to act, I unfriend them because I don't want their behavior reflecting badly on me.

      Delete
    3. Also another social media topic. The xbox 360 allows you to meet other people online. Most are other people who are bad. You know robbers, kidnappers, rapists.
Some mics allow you to change you voice and one of the bad people can tell you that he lives in that area and drive their and do something you to you! Their are privacy settings on the xbox were you can't talk to people who aren't your friends, but still you can make them your friend. Once on the news (in new york) a kid met a guy on the xbox and decided to meet him. The next day he was gone.

      Delete
    4. John - good contribution! Vigilance online has to extend to every connected device. Never give out personal information online. And while I'm sure not everyone online is "bad," thinking that everyone you meet online could be is probably not a bad idea.

As teenagers you should never meet in person people you have met online. If someone want to meet you, or is posting/saying inappropriate or uncomfortable things toward you, make your parents or a trusted adult aware IMMEDIATELY!

    5. Your right bill not everyone is bad, you can have friends online but I would say not to let them in front of your friends don't talk to them more then your friends. Please tell my problems with my grammar if they are wrong. thanks. ☺

  15. I was at a conference last week and in one of the sessions we were discussing this topic. A teacher from another state shared that one of her students was getting ready to graduate on a full-ride athletic scholarship. Close to the end of the year the individual posted pictures of himself partying believing that he had his privacy all set so only his friends could see them.

One of his friends was tagged in the picture and so the image also went on his activity feed. This friend was less careful about privacy and had friended the university where our original student had a full-ride scholarship. The university saw the post, and just days before graduation pulled the student's scholarship and left him facing a bill for full tuition.

All from one picture... True story....

  16. This reflects on everything you do. You post something about someone, or something someone cares about and a argument or fight starts digitally, or physically. Facebook is the source of all arguments, fights, and job losing disasters. Facebook is a bad, but at the same time good. As the article says, you can put good photos of you or other people up. Some people just put bad stuff up, some good. Its not the computer that puts them up, its the person. Here is what I say, don't got something good to say then don't say it

You would not put something stupid on Facebook for everyone to see. You need to think to yourself, Would I want my future boss or one of my family members to see this? If you ask yourself these questions you could avoid trouble in the near future. Jobs today look at your Facebook and will not hire you if they find bad things on your account. Everyone needs to use their common sense and if they do, it could help them.

When they post it on there or a friend does , there life could be ruined. It might be funny when there doing it , but it isn't funny when almost two million people are basically laughing , and cyber bullying you! So the next time you post something on facebook thinking it may make you famous . Although , It's in a BAD way

    1. Ashton - Very insightful! It is important to know that in today's world cameras are everywhere, and everything we do could get posted online. Now, that doesn't mean we can't have fun, it just forces us to be more aware of what we are doing and saying. It also means that we have a responsibility to others when we post online. We should all think about this when we share someone else's likeness online.

Thanks for sharing this. We will talk about the important topic of cyberbullying later in the week but it is important in this dialogue as well!

  27. There are billions of types of media in our world today. Yet, not every site is safe. Anything you post on Facebook and Twitter could come back and hurt you in the future. Even if you delete it, it is still out there. Things that you post can never go away. Never. So before you post something, think about it! Just take the time and think, because one little thing back then, could come back and hurt you.

  28. Facebook is never private, there isn't many ways to keep it private either. No kid should have a Facebook, there are other ways to keep in touch with friends. Facebook should only be for adults. A lot of kids think that nothing is going to happen and that they can deal with the stress and hate, but they can't. It's too, much to handle, middle school students have enough to handle.

  29. There are millions of social media sites nowadays, but none of them are totally lenient of holding any personal information. Personally, I don't use Facebook or Twitter, but I'm glad I don't. So many people are hacking accounts, copying pictures, and being a nuisance to your profile. Like most of you have probably heard from your parents, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.' Well, think of that quote as in posting something: If your picture is abusive or hurting someone, don't post it. Lift others up, and stay clear of any drama that you may cause.

Last summer my mother ran a summer camp for kids. She had many problems with her employees and what they did outside of this job. During the summer we all became very close, and still wanted to stay connected with each other after summer. I, as well as my mother, 'followed' some of her counselors from the previous year. About a month ago I was scrolling through this site and saw a picture of these two ladies having shots with there friends. My mother saw it also. As you all know, the legal drinking age is 21. But, these teenagers were only 19. They shouldn't of posted that picture, especially where anyone could view it, including police men. They could of easily been arrested because of under-age drinking.

A week ago these young teenagers contacted my mother about a job opportunity back at camp this summer. My mother was not impressed with them, and told them that they were not going to be welcomed back. That one picture, whether meant for us to see or not, affected there job.

Many updated social sites are very harmful to young teenagers, and adults as well. So, be careful what you post, and don't take anything for granted on the Internet.

Yes, but you could be the one in a billion. You could be the one that gets hacked, or gets tracked. How would you feel in twenty years of that big boss for this amazing career researches you on Facebook and finds a picture from when you were 15 and you took a picture of something you knew you weren't suppose to but did anyway. Then the boss gets back with you and that one picture ruined it all for you.

  35. Facebook is a great social network that you can use to chat on and share what happens in your daily life. But sadly, there are some people on Facebook who are rude and don't follow Facebook's policy. And I heard that accounts on Facebook have been getting hacked and deleted by a group of people and a super computer. The same thing is also happening to Instagram. I myself have been hacked on both websites. In a lot of ways, Facebook is dangerous. You have to enter in MORE personal info to keep your account secure. Which I don't get, at all. But to be honest if I had the opportunity to make an FB account, I'd jump at the chance. Mostly because the website is popular and most of my friends are on it.

I do not know anyone with drama, however this is because I am sensible and don't hang around those people. Unfortunately people still do this and are not always able to help it. For the most part though, people are closer because of Facebook

I don't like logging in and see half naked people, drugs, and alcohol everyday. I also don't like listening to peoples drama all day on my news feed. When people post stuff I don't personally think is appropriate I block them.

  53. Day 1: Facebook can be for good and bad things. It helps you communicate with your family that you havn't seen in a while and it helps you share pictures and videos of things that can't be told to people. You should not be friends with people that you don't know and that you don't get along with. You shouldn't take pictures or videos of inappropriate things.

    1. Kayla - good thoughts! A picture truly tells a thousand words. This is great when sharing a picture of your family at the holidays or your baby brother's first steps.

The thing we must remember is that the person viewing the photo gets to choose the thousand words, not you. That picture of you at a party with a plastic cup in your hand might be seen as you drinking a Coke by those who know you, but, depending on the context of the picture, could be taken an entirely different way by a future employer.

A lot to think about. A lot of responsibility.

  62. I believe that this article has very effective guidelines to use while you are on a public website. Before you post anything you should think is it True? Is it Helpful? Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind? Is it appropriate? Prior to posting anything on a website, you should be able to answer yes to all of the previous questions. Many companies, people, and work places use Facebook as a liable source of information about that person. Therefore, you need to only post safe, applicable information, that would be meaningful and respectful to everyone. Remember, once you post something (picture, status, etc.) it NEVER goes away, even if you delete it.

  64. The answer is simple. The only thing you have to do to keep your social media good and clean is not post inappropriate things. Your future boss could see your postings at anytime and that could affect your chances at getting a job. If your a kid posting innapropriate things now, and you think your own mother would not approve then what makes you think your boss would? He probably won't approve so the best answer is to not post those type of things.

You have predators that want your personal information, you also have bad choices calling your name. When you do create a facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. be sure not to include your personal information, like your phone number, adress, or even your full name. If you ever include any of that just to show people your not afraid, or to even seem cool, think about what your including before you hit submit. Is it really making you cooler? From the point of view of a teacher who listens to what happens around her-the comments made to other students, the loud talk in the hall, I would like to remind the students around me that what they can be held responsible for what they say and do. Just because you are not yelling it in a classroom, or writing it on a wall, does not mean that you have the freedom to erupt and say whatever you want. Just because you erase something, does not mean that no one saw it. Your digital life lives even longer than you. In the example in the reading above, a short youtube video cost someone his scholarship. The same can be said about your future employers. Things that we do everyday could be viewed as something much different than they are. You could miss out on opportunities because of "acting a fool" on facebook.

  77. We can use social media, such as Facebook to raise awareness for events or causes that help to benefit certain organizations that help people out such as breast cancer awareness or a telethon for starving children. We can also use social media to share pictures of us with our friends and family to allow other friends and family members that we never get to see what we look like and what we are up to in our lives. Now, with Facebook's timeline we can show major events or things that we have done that can allow people to see what we have participated in and the places we have worked or volunteered. So if colleges or bosses did look into your account they can find that you have been productive doing good things and see how stable or unstable of a person that you may be.

Very little kids dont know that whatever they post is never going away just by pressing delete its still going to be their. But before you post anything think twice. Having a bad character can lead you down the wrong path and end up falling off a cliff, but just before you fall their will be someone with a good quality character to lead back on the path of life. 100. I actually have a personal experience with a digital predator. And even worse, it was on my Facebook page. When I was in 6th grade, EVERYBODY had a Facebook account except me! I asked my mom over and over for one, but she kept telling me about the dangers and how it affect me one day in the future. But because I wanted one so badly, I went behind her back and I got one. And that was fine for a few years, until the summer that I was going to 8th grade. I had never posted too much stuff about me, or what I did with my daily life, or complain about odd things. But one day, I got a message from a random guy who had "just graduated from high school." I decided to go against all of the safety rules that I knew and messaged him back. He ended up finding my phone number and texting me all the time. Then he kept telling me how "hot" I was and gross stuff like that! Then when I told him to get away, he just wouldn't leave me alone! A long LONG story short, my guy friend almost got into a fight with him when he decided to stalk me one day! Creepy right?!? After that, I took off all of my information from Facebook, and now I only use I to keep in touch with my church and from camps that I've been to recently. So I learned my lesson pretty fast... listen to your mom when she tells you not to do something, and don't put to much one the web about you and your life (espically if you're going to complain about everything that you have!!!)

  101. Using social media sites are fine if you use them wisely. Social media sites should be used for good things, such as appreciating someone's hard work or supporting a good cause. The Internet should be used to help people, not to hurt someone or complain about something. Also, social media sites should be used carefully and responsibly. You need to think about what you post and how it will affect others and yourself. One bad post can cost you college and career opportunities, and sometimes even good friends. Also, people need to be more aware that privacy can be invaded. There are cameras everywhere and anything posted on the Internet can be seen by anyone. When using the Internet, everyone needs to be careful of what they say and how it will affect the future.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Social media sites are a big responsibility. It is absolutely true that no matter how old or how long ago it was deleted, anything uploaded online if forever accessible by the internet surfing population. I have a friend, whom I will call John, that experienced it firsthand. John was in a fight with another boy at school. This was not his first encounter with the law regarding an altercation. Initially there were charges pressed against him for assault. Eventually the charge on both sides were dropped. This left nothing to prosecute John. However, the opposing lawyer had looked up John's social media page to gather more information during the trials. As a result he came across an old Myspace page that included pictures of John. This was not his page, but one he was tagged in. In addition the photos were obviously from several years earlier. Despite all of that, the court was still able to press charges for gang activity, due to the hand signs he was holding in the picture. It just goes to show that everything you do online can be retrieved. Unfortunately people tend to forget that and get careless about what they reveal to the world.

  103. I've always tried to look at the pros and cons when deciding whether or not to join a social media website. Either I can join a site to keep up social statuses and simply make life a little faster and easier, or I can avoid future problems, drama, obscenities, and possible embarrassment by not joining at all. In my mind, the latter seems to outweigh my first option. It may seem weird and unheard of for a kid my age to deny things such as Facebook, or Twitter, or Myspace, but it is what it is.

My moral for these types of issues is to just not join in the first place. I haven't taken part in many social media websites, just for the fear of all the terrible things that can happen if I don't stay away. Maybe it's just the way I was raised to believe, I'm not sure.

For those people who've already been sucked into sites like Facebook or Twitter, all I can say is to make the best of it. I agree completely when Dana says to, "Do More,". Post about all the good things you do, so viewers will know exactly how great you really are. Why not even get others involved?

You could even do a random act of kindness even make someones day instaed of beating someone up about their picture they had posted.I've also noticed alot of cyber bullying on facebook and twitter and some kids even hurt themselves and worst people just dont understand how the person who's getting bullied feels about all of the name calling and even it may go as far as the bullies start to hit the the person gettng bullied its time to take a stand and say no to bullying!

  105. When on a social media site, you want to make sure you don't post something that will haunt you forever. Once it's on the internet, it will be there forever. Think before you act, don't post things that can be used against you. Those post might have been funny then, but can effect your life later.

  106. People say that posting on Facebook or Twitter or any other site can't hurt you, but in all honesty anything you do on the internet can hurt you. Loss of jobs, friends, trust ,all that is important to you can be lost with one push of a button. I'm young myself and I've been told I have NO IDEA but from personal experience it can. I've lost friends, trust, and respect, from family and peers because of things I've done on the internet. I think everyone reading this can relate in some way but you don't just have to be careful what you say online things you say or do in person can hurt you just as much.

    "A mistake,
    a get away
    an empty screen,
    a sorry face,
    one word, one lie,
    an image that never fades,
    never dies.
will that be you in the end?
    regretting decisions, past friends.
a mistake will be a click away,
    harming you
    until your end."

    1. Meghan, Thank you for the thoughtful response! You bring up a good correlation between online and offline behavior.

  107. Posting things online can pretty much make or break the future for some. Even if you believe that you can post something, but then deciding to delete them later may not be the best choice. Even if you think what you posted was deleted, that video/picture/post will follow you your entire life; hiding in cyberspace.
You really have to think before posting what may be categorized as 'inappropriate' by anyone looking at it. Anything you post can be saved by anyone, and there is nothing stopping that file from spread across every reading eye.
This post just makes me think about how to act online. You have to think to yourself about everything; ask yourself questions. What would my parents say? What would my future child say? Even ask yourself What would god say? Once you have done this, you are safe online. But you still must be aware of what you post- no matter what it is.

  108. by Andrew Harper (edited): I think that we should be very careful about what is done with social media. However, I do think that at the end of the day, it is up to the individual to decide what he/she uses it for. I do think that Facebook had allowed me to stay connected to people whenever I was not at [school] last year. However, I believe that people can misunderstand things in social media (particularly if sarcasm is used). A simple misunderstanding of things was at the root of my departure from [my school]. And for a long while, it seemed like I would never be at a school again. It may have been a simple misunderstanding of something I put on Facebook, but it almost ruined my life

  109. There are many ways that you could use your social media for good. First of all, don't go posting lots of pictures of you and your friends being stupid. These could effect your future and how others look at you as a person. You should use your social media to encourage others to do well and cheer people up when they are down. If someone did something nice for you, post it on Facebook for others to see. Everyone will see the good deed that person did and they will feel accomplished and help people out more often.

  110. I agree completely with your idea! It is time for students to get serious because things we post can effect us now and in the future. Some of my friends come to school and fight over what a person commented on Facebook, not only did it start a fight, but it damaged a friendship. Being able to see that first hand, I will definitively be more careful about what I post anywhere online. I also agree that people need to be more cautious about what they post. I always ask myself: would I want someone to post this about me? If i say no then I do not post it, which is a good thing for everyone to start doing.

  111. The internet, especially social networking sites, can be very cruel and dangerous. In order to be safe, people need to be very cautious and watch what they do and say on the internet. I think that people should not post any harmful or rude pictures of them self or others. You should also not be rude or disrespectful to others on the internet.

  112. I think the internet can be a very dangerous place. It is good to be wise about what you put on there. You could use your Facebook or twitter and make it a club account. You can make it a helpful account maybe giving tips or help. There are so many great possibilities and opportunities. Why would you post dumb things that could hurt your rep when you could be helping others out.

  113. I completely agree with this blog post. When on the internet, it is important that you do not post anything embarrassing or hurtful, even if it is just a joke. Everything on the internet is permanent. One way to avoid hurting your reputation is to think before you post. This means that you think about all of the possible consequences that could come from your post. Personally, I always say to myself, "What would I think of this if somebody else posted it?" That is one way to avoid trouble on the internet.

  114. The blog is right. Everything you do online will be remembered and could end up hurting you in the future. People need to have the character and be responsible enough not to do those sort of things. People shouldn't be posting inappropriate things online either.

  116. I agree with the post because whatever you say on the internet will be there. You never know that something you put on the internet years ago could ruin your whole college career. That's why before you post a picture or anything on the internet you need to think of what the consequences could be.

  119. When someone signs up for a social media account, they can put whatever name they want to for it. This is important to remember because not everyone is who they say they are. You may not be talking to the person you think you're talking to. All of this is just as important to remember. If you are friends with a fake profile on Facebook, they can see your pictures too. Then, someone who you don't even know has access to all of your information and pictures. If you put good pictures on you Facebook and other accounts, this won't be a problem for you. However, if you are posting pictures that you only want your friends to see, that might not be the case. Always think about these things as you are logging onto your social media sights.

  120. That's right. You don't want something that might be funny today, destroy something important tomorrow.

  121. I would feel like people are using me. If they asked my permission id feel different and maybe consider letting them use it. If they gave me credits I might let them use it depends on what they are using it for. If they changed the photo or something on it like that I would kinda be mad because you trying to make it look like yours and it ant.

  122. This is completely true, although it isn't news to me. I have heard all of this quite a while back, 5th or 6th grade I think, it's a very dangerous game posting stuff on the internet, anyone can take anything and anyone can see anything. The best thing to do would be to keep the innapropriacy to yourself and keep it off the social networking.

  123. Teens everywhere are making stupid decisions as we speak that can harm their future forever. Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace users are posting inappropriate and unnecessary content that are preventing them from getting into the top collages and earning jobs they need to make money. Many people are questioning how teens and even adults can stop the misuse of social media, when really, the answer is obvious: stop using social media. Honestly, I sometimes do not even know why people use online sites such as Facebook. After all, thousands of people are becoming addicted to the internet each day. If they don't have any access to social media, they can't become addicted and post stupid things! I know most people can disagree with me and say that social media is necessary to connect with family and friends. I do think that is a good reason, but why not just email them or call them on the phone? You cannot do anything via email or telephone that can harm your future. In conclusion, avoiding all social media is the perfect solution to internet addiction and misuse of social media.

  125. I think you should really be careful with what you put on Facebook, and Twitter, and YouTube, because you don't know what people will do through the type of things you put on sites like Facebook, I have a Facebook account, and I'm very careful with the things I post, and the friends I accept on Facebook

  126. People need to watch what they post on (Facebook,Twitter & any other websits) People look at that and jugde you for what they see about you.

  127. Make sure you don't post anything bad that will make people think badly of you. If you don't you can't delete it EVER. Like others have said, "What would your parents think of you?" You need to be very careful what you post and how you post it.

  128. Anyone can use social media in a fun, mannered, and respected way, not many people do though. Most people use Facebook for horrible reasons and usually don't get into jobs, schools, or have disrespected many in an unknowing way. So here are some acceptable things you could post to help you get into these schools and jobs, without disrespecting anyone. You don't have to post something every single day (or every second for that matter), keep your post simple, short, and to the point of what you have accomplished. Never post anything about anyone else ,unless you are talking about how wonderful they are and spreading the good news about them. And lastly never post anything you wouldn't say to your teachers, because they will be the ones checking your Facebook in the future. Use social media for the good reasons, connecting with friends and family by posting your recent achievements. Just remember: Facebook is supposed to help show how great you are, not for seeing how many times you can post insulting things about someone in an hour.

  129. I completely agree with the following blog, I wish that all people knew the value of social media sites. I know the value of posting on Facebook, and that you just can't post anything you want, because your friends, family, and other people you don't even know are able to see. You can tell a lot about a person's Facebook, and practically judge their character without even knowing them, just from their social media profile. When your interviewed for a job, they also usually look at your Facebook, because they can tell your character, and habits that you may have. People shouldn't post ignorant things that can cause them to not get a job, everyone should be smart about what they post.
